I loved the autonomy you got as an FA. My role was 100% WFH which made it easier to navigate life in general. I also loved the people. There are a plethora of "clubs" which foster diversity and inclusion efforts to make you feel at home.
GDIT is a company with a soul!
What I wish was different
I wish that there were handbooks and a set of procedures coming into the role. There is a bit of dysfunction associated with being a FA in the government contracting industry, but that's across the board for all firms.
Advice: you will hear a lot of your senior managers saying "I'm putting out fires left and right..." The goal is not to find some random assignment to keep you busy. Put that thinking cap on and figure out how you guys can work together to put the "fire" (i.e. problems we're facing) out.
Advice
I am going against the grain here, but this has made me successful in securing 4 internships so far - Go into your internship with this expectation: 50% of your job is doing the work, and the other 50% is getting to know your managers and coworkers so you can secure the return offer!
Don't fade into your work. Voice your thoughts, ask questions, get to know others, and have fun in the process.

What I liked
General Dynamics is a good company overall with seemingly a lot of good benefits. I would definitely consider working here full time in the future.
What I wish was different
I wish my tasks were actually related to my job title. I did almost no programming during this internship, and certainly did not do any software development.
Advice
Be vocal. Talk to your team and your hiring manager whenever you have questions or ideas. Everyone at GDIT is very kind, understanding, and open to new ideas. This will not only get you noticed, but also allow you to have more fun with your internship!

Technical Intern
January - December 2019 • Chantilly, VA
What I liked
I received the freedom to experiment and try different things. My team always encouraged me to learn new things.
What I wish was different
My main responsibility was automated testing. I was writing code but it was to test an application my team was working on. I would have preferred to do some development work for that application. Also, It was a very small team and I was the only person doing testing for that application so I didn't experience a lot of teamwork.
Advice
Show initiative and ask questions.
