Laboratory Animal Technician
Description: A part-time laboratory animal technician position is available to do research on Alzheimer’s disease. My laboratory has multiple mouse models related to Alzheimer's disease, including transgenic mice, knockout mice and conditional knockout mice. The applicant will be able to participate in exciting molecular, anatomic and behavioral studies exploring the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. These studies in turn contribute to the development of novel therapeutic agents.
Responsibilities
The animal technician will work alongside our existing work-study student to help with managing the animal colony, which involves animal husbandry, genotyping, breeding and harvesting. There is also the possibility of becoming involved in scientific projects emanating from this work, but this is not required for the job.
Qualifications
Prior animal experience is a prerequisite for the job. The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree and prior laboratory experience; some familiarity with molecular biology is a plus. The applicant must be strongly motivated, able to work independently and possess a strong ability to organize data. In addition, the applicant should have good interpersonal skills. Compensation is dependent on experience.
