Position Overview
Candeo Schools is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic Second Grade Teacher who is eager to inspire young minds through a content-rich, structured, and classical education model. The ideal candidate will have a deep respect for academic excellence, a commitment to high expectations, and a passion for developing students' character and intellectual habits.
What You'll Teach in Second Grade
As a Second Grade Teacher, you’ll bring to life:

Language Arts: Classic read-alouds like Charlotte’s Web and A Christmas Carol; mastery of parts of speech, sentence structure, and handwriting; and the development of composition skills through narration and copywork.

History & Geography: An overview of ancient Greece, Early Asian civilizations, and modern Japan, as well as the early history of the United States, including the War of 1812 and Westward Expansion.
- Science: Foundational lessons in the human body, insects, simple machines, and states of matter, designed to foster observation, classification, and hands-on exploration.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality instruction based on the Core Knowledge Sequence and the Hillsdale K-12 curriculum, ensuring students develop a strong foundation in literature, history, science, mathematics, and the arts.
- Foster a knowledge-rich classroom where students engage with timeless stories, historical events, and foundational concepts in an orderly, structured, and joyful learning environment.
- Cultivate intellectual and moral virtues by setting high expectations for student behavior, responsibility, and effort.
- Engage students through explicit instruction and Socratic discussions, encouraging deep thinking and meaningful discourse.
- Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments, using data to drive instruction and ensure mastery of content.

Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators to support student growth and uphold the mission of Candeo Schools.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (Required).
- AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Experience or familiarity with the Core Knowledge curriculum and/or classical education preferred.
- Strong classroom management skills with an emphasis on structure, discipline, and student engagement.
- A passion for academic content and intellectual rigor.
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and participate in ongoing professional development.
