Position Description:

This position is a part-time position as a Medical Assisting Instructor in the Health Care Technology Department.
Job Duties:
1. Instruct in-person college level courses in the Medical Assisting program.Perform duties associated with instruction of students in the Medical Assisting Program and assessing their progress in relation to identified student learning outcomes.
2. Assure that the accrediting organization's clinical, administrative, and general competencies are incorporated into the curriculum and course outline.
3. Maintain departmental policies in the classroom and maintain accreditation standards.
4. Participate in departmental duties including, but not limited to, advisory committee meetings, curriculum development, selection of appropriate instructional materials and revision of testing materials.
5. Assist in student recruitment and retention.
6. Participate in departmental functions, such as staff meetings, committee work, faculty evaluations, grant writing, accreditation process, and others as assigned.
7. Organize instruction to include didactics, clinical, administrative, and externship components structured to allow students optimum learning experience.
8. Develop and maintain professional practice sites and employer sites for student placement.
9. Participate in assessment activities necessary for program evaluation of student learning outcomes for program review and to maintain accrediting standards.
10. Perform duties associated with instructing students and assessing their progress in relation to identified student learning outcomes.
11. Teach day, evening, and/or weekend classes at any of the College's campuses as required.
12. Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.
13. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.
14. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).
2. Earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent foreign degree, plus two years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment; OR THE EQUIVALENT;
OR
Earned Associate Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent foreign degree, plus six years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment; OR THE EQUIVALENT;
OR
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Health and Physical Care Services and Related Technologies (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

Desirable Qualifications:
1. Earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in a health related discipline.
2. Previous successful teaching experience and successful work experience in a medical assisting or related health program.
3. Demonstrated competencies in the specific subject area as delineated by the American Association of Medical Assistants and/or hold a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential.
4. At least three years of successful experience in a related health care position.
5. Successful supervisory experience with health care professionals, medical assisting, or related disciplines within a health care facility.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of courses in educational theory and practice.
7. Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy.
8. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.

Selection Procedure/Conditions of Employment
