Trailblazer Child & Youth Program Internship
Do you love the outdoors, making a positive impact, and new adventures?
Do you love working with kids?
If you answered yes, this internship is for YOU!
Trailblazer Child and Youth Program partners with the US Navy to place interns at Navy bases to work with kids on the base. In this role, you'll work as a teaching assistant to provide child care and recreation for military children. It's an awesome way to earn money, get college credit, build your career, have lots of fun, and make a positive impact on society!
Why it's great:
- Airfare, housing, and local transportation are paid
- Rental car in some locations
- Earn $17.20/hour and work 40 hours per week (that's more than $8,000 pre-tax!)
- Earn upper division credits
- Explore and travel on evenings and weekends
- Make new friends
- Prepare for your career and get great references
The details:
- Internships available in Spring, Summer, and Fall
- Hours are usually 8:00-5:00 with an hour off for lunch, Monday through Friday
- You'll help with things like reading, playing outside, teaching music, crafts, field trips, coaching sports, meal time, nap time, and other activities
What do I need to thrive in this role?
- Any major
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen
- At least 2 semesters of college complete
- 2.0 GPA
- Positive attitude
- Flexibility and professional demeanor
- Experience working with children is a bonus but not necessary
Cool…I have some questions:
- Do I have to join the Navy? Nope. You'll be part of the supplemental staff, so you'll have access to the base as a civilian…no boot camp necessary
- Do I have to be a Utah Tech University student? Also no. We work with students from universities across the United States. Participation in this program won't affect your status at your current institution
- Can I bring a friend? YES! We love to place interns with friends. If you know someone (or lots of people) who would love it as much as you, please encourage them to apply as well so you can be roommates
- What's the catch? Great question! While the Navy sponsors this internship, you will be responsible to pay tuition for the credits you earn ($255/credit, minimum of 3 credits), $18 for fingerprinting, and a $500 deposit (fully refundable when housing, car, and uniform are returned in good condition at the end of the internship). You'll earn more than $8,000 throughout the internship, so you still come out way ahead
