ABOUT THIS POSITION
Our summer internship program consists of a well-rounded learning experience within our Aggregates, Ready-Mix, or Construction divisions. The ideal candidate is a current student interested in obtaining a four-year degree in mining, civil, mechanical or electrical engineering, geology, accounting and/or finance. This is considered a short-term temporary, but full-time position for the summer months. We generally kickoff our program in late May and end early to mid-August dependent upon intern availability. Our goal is to not only provide real-time exposure to our mining sites, quarries and industry, but also provide development opportunities in the areas of leadership, maintenance, and the day-to-day workforce. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work closely with the team to determine solutions to common problems.
- Learn and assist in day-to-day operations of the quarry.
- Learn the administrative requirements of the business through hands-on experience.
- Adopt and adapt safety protocol, with direct exposure to OSHA and MSHA training.
- Increase effective communication among the team and customer interactions.
- Work with and support various departments to include operations, maintenance, quality, and sales.
- Learn standardized procedures including budgeting, production planning, staffing and inventory.
- Learn the products we provide and produce, as well as the process that goes into producing them.
- Support basic operations and overall logistics.
- Learn to operate quarry equipment, as needed.
Requirements
- Must have transportation to and from assigned quarry each day.
- Must be willing to learn.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of leadership.
- Must be able to lift up to 35lbs, and up to 50lbs with assistance, if needed.
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as supplied by the company.
- Must be able to work 40 hours per week, overtime is available at many of our quarry sites.
- Ability to solve practical problems and work in a hands-on setting.
- Willingness to work outside in the quarry and inside in the office dependent upon the need.
- Must be able to effectively add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Must be able to effectively read, write and understand the English language.
- Must be at minimum, a current Sophomore to be considered.
- Must be able to comply with company background and motor vehicle check policy standards.
- Must be able to provide proof of employment eligibility according to Federal Form I-9 requirements.
Program Details
- PPE to include safety vest, safety glasses and gloves are provided by the company. Safety boots or shoes needed, with one time, up to $150 reimbursement - receipt / proof of purchase required.
