Job Description:

The Austin, TX office is seeking a temporary full-time Civil Engineering Intern, with a background in civil, geotechnical, and/or structural engineering, to support our growing Tunnel Business Unit.  We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.  Candidates will support design, investigation, and construction management of tunnel engineering projects. The position will be held from May through August of 2025.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Apply professional principles, complex numerical models, and innovative solutions to real-world problems as part of a team of engineers and scientists while under the supervision of senior engineering personnel.
  • Assist in the preparation of CAD drawings for contract documents and reports with input and guidance from senior engineers in accordance with internal drafting procedures and guidelines.
  • Perform structural and geotechnical design calculations for tunnels and underground structures including tunnels, shafts, excavation support, and other underground facilities.
  • Ability to travel and work in the field is required. Field work may include tunnel inspections, construction observation, material testing, and geotechnical investigation.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program.
  • Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD is preferred. Familiarity with MathCAD, STAAD, SAP, RISA, RSA, GeoStudio, Plaxis, FLAC, and Revit software are pluses, but not required.
  • Ability to work on active or potential construction sites including site work that may involve work in underground spaces, above slopes and shafts, over rough terrain, and in remote locations.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Junior, senior, and graduate students.
  • Prior professional work or summer intern work in a related field.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required. No visa sponsorship will be provided.

The compensation range for a Civil Engineering Intern is between $17.00 to $24.20. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
