Sports Coaching Internship at Sleepaway Camp

Camp North Star is hiring athletic coaching interns to join our TEAM for the 2025 camp season.

Camp North Star is a premier camp in Poland Spring, Maine. We are looking to hire motivated and enthusiastic coaching interns for the 2025 camp season. The compensation includes all living and food expenses. This position is ideal for college students looking for or considering a career in coaching or sports management.

We are seeking staff who have:

  • Prior experience working with children, preferably at a summer camp or sports team/program.
  • Ability and experience to coach youth in at least one specific sport.
  • Sports offered include - basketball, baseball, tennis, flag football, soccer, volleyball, and swimming.
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to be a positive role model for our campers.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with your fellow interns and alongside our head coaches.

Overview of Position - The coaching internship is designed for students who are interested in the development of youth sports curriculums and coach education & performance. Students will gain knowledge and experience in writing and editing age-appropriate coaching plans, delivering coaching sessions, assisting with employee training, and more. This position is ideal for students wanting to aspire towards paid coaching positions and physical education instructors.

You will work alongside our head coaches and receive guidance from our Athletic Director on coaching best practices, strategies, and methods. You will have the opportunity to observe coaching sessions and lead your own age-appropriate drills, scrimmages, and training sessions for campers ages 7 - 17, something that is often missing from typical instructional coaching courses.

You will also live in a cabin with 1 or 2 cabin counselors and help supervise a group of 8 - 10 campers.

Cabin Counselor Responsibilities

  • Live with a group of campers and help each camper adjust and grow in relation to other campers and camp life, and monitor daily care and hygiene of cabin group and living space.
  • Work cooperatively as necessary with all other staff members in planning, implementation, and evaluation of camp-wide activities.
  • Adhere to the rules, regulations, and expectations of the camp, with special emphasis on safety, health, and mutual respect.
  • Guide each individual camper in participation in their group and all camp activities. Assist campers in choosing and scheduling their weekly schedule.
  • Actively supervise campers and engage in conversation with campers during meals.
