Offshore Engineer

DNV

The Offshore Engineer role is for an engineer (0-5 years experience) primarily supporting verification/advisory and certification services for offshore energy infrastructure. 

As a newly graduated engineer, the ideal candidate will have a strong background in the preferred skills listed. An experienced candidate ideally has prior experience executing projects for at least one offshore asset (structures, risers, pipelines, cables/umbilicals, subsea systems) and as a technical resource with understanding of the particular asset. 

The successful candidate will work with more senior engineers and project managers on projects within the offshore industry and on areas that facilitate energy transition (such as offshore or onshore assets, regulatory bodies, Equity firms, as well as corporate clients). The successful candidate will see their experience grow beyond their core specialization, and are expected to be adaptable with good interpersonal skills. 

This role is based at our DNV office in Katy, TX presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from a DNV office.

What You’ll Do

  • Take responsibility to deliver project tasks in the desired areas of expertise without compromising quality.
  • Learn and grow your skillset through execution of projects in both offshore infrastructure (not limited to area of prior experience) as well as onshore/offshore energy transition projects
  • Proactively contribute to developing and delivering a solid portfolio of projects for new offshore developments and life extension of existing offshore assets
  • Write project proposals, work plans, reports, and strategy documents
  • Manage and balance multiple projects and project teams while keeping all items on schedule and within budget expectations
  • Support sales and business development
  • Execute projects together with regional and global resources
  • Build customer relationships and monitor customer satisfaction
  • Continuously strive for new opportunities for improvement or expansion of added value
  • Actively develop new and innovative means to deliver value, scale market share , and serve customer needs more completely

What is Required

In your cover letter, please tell us about your core strengths [thesis/courses/ projects as an engineering student or project management/technical expertise (in one of the offshore asset area) as an experienced engineer].

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or related degrees (Civil, Ocean, Applied Mechanics, Subsea, or similar engineering discipline)
  • Experience (0-5 years). Entry level candidates will be considered with strong background in preferred skills.
  • Background in Finite Element analysis and/or related topics (For new graduates see requirement in Preferred skills).
  • Experience with FEA software Abaqus or Ansys or special purpose tools such as Flexcom/Orcaflex (If a new graduate, in lieu of industry experience course work/thesis shall be considered with a strong background and hands on experience using general purpose FEA tools such as Ansys or Abaqus. For experienced candidates, project experience utilizing the software is expected).
  • Solutions-focused, collaborative personality with strong interpersonal skills
  • An organized, detail-oriented approach and the ability to work and make decisions independently
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time as required
