Civil Water Engineer Intern

Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school Civil Engineering student for a paid summer internship for Summer 2025 at our Denver, CO office. Imagine working on rewarding client projects and being exposed to unparalleled training and development opportunities!  Students actively pursuing a Civil Engineering degree with a Structural emphasis will not be considered.

 

The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2025. 

We will be accepting resumes for this opportunity from approximately September – November 2024. Resumes will be reviewed as they are received. Interviews will take place in the Fall/Winter. Offers will be extended in Winter/Spring. Timeframe subject to change.


WHAT YOU'LL DO
 

The summer internship will provide an undergraduate or graduate student an opportunity to gain technical experience with Merrick’s growing water practice. The intern will be exposed to Merrick’s diverse team and a variety of water engineering topics, including water treatment / reclamation, water storage, transmission, and distribution, pipeline design and rehabilitation, sanitary sewer sizing and design, surface water / storm water management, urban river restoration, management, and recreation, development review and planning, water and sanitation district operation and maintenance, and water / wastewater modelling. The intern can expect to gain exposure and experience on one or more the following software packages: AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS Pro, various hydraulic modelling software’s, Bluebeam Revu, and the full Microsoft Suite. Merrick values field experience and will strive to find and / or create opportunities for field work and field exposure with the summer interns.

 

Interns will receive water specific training throughout the summer covering the following areas: industry vocabulary, basic hydraulics, pump’s 101, district / municipality / utility organization 101, engineering consulting 101, how to read engineering plans, and more!  Additionally, civil water interns will have the opportunity to complete optional summer reading focused on the management of water, specifically, the challenges facing the American West.  Merrick’s summer intern program is treated as an entry level engineering hiring pipeline.

 

This position requires the collaboration with other disciplines, ability to interface with clients and contractors, follow schedules and budget commitments, work independently, possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to problem solve. Must meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • Must be pursuing an engineering degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • Previous internships in Civil Engineering
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D 
  • Local candidates preferred
