Mechatronics Technical Assistant

Summary:

Responsible for assisting the CTE Mechatronics instructor in the planning and implementation of educational activities in addition to supporting student-related day-to-day operations of the classroom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support KRESA anti-bias, anti-racism principles, prioritizing equitable opportunity, program representation and support for all students
  • Assist the CTE Mechatronics Instructor in the planning and implementation of educational activities
  • Supplement instruction by assisting the CTE Instructor with additional student supports (i.e. individual and small group instruction, drill activities, student accommodations, etc.).
  • Provide and document instructional accommodations provided to support student success in the program (i.e. additional testing time, modified tests/assignments, reading assessments aloud, etc.).
  • Assist with student supervision in lab and adherence to safety procedures and protocols.
  • Meet with Student Engagement Coordinator monthly to report on student progress.
  • Assess Mechatronics related skills including mechatronic systems, computer/controllers, motor/actuator energization, sensors, etc.
  • Assist with work-based learning experiences
  • Model 21st Century skills and encourage their use by students
  • Assist with student leadership development and related activities
  • Attend professional development and other meetings as appropriate and requested.
  • If needed, communicate with students, parents, CTE staff, and local school staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain instructional/classroom records as requested/required.
  • Maintain regular consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain a professional personal appearance.
  • Adhere to classroom health and safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by teacher/administration.

Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Kalamazoo RESA handbook.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Recent and relevant work experience in Mechatronics

Strongly Preferred: Currently pursuing a degree/technical education in Mechatronics, Robotics, Automation, etc., or working in the field.

Relevant industry certifications or credentials are beneficial.

Other Skill & Abilities:

Positive attitude toward high school students.

Safety mindset.

Excellent communication skills.

Basic computer skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands:

Work Environment:

School environment where there may be physical discomfort due to temperature, dust or the like, depending on location of CTE program (i.e., computer lab vs. auto shop).

Noise level in this environment may be moderate to loud.
