Low Carbon Fuel Engineer

The Fuels Section of the Industrial Strategies Division is is seeking an Air Resources Engineer to manage data, information and systems that support ongoing implementation of the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS). LCFS data systems include the LCFS Reporting Tool (LRT), Credit Banking and Transfer System (CBTS), and Alternative Fuels Portal (AFP). The staff person will work with fuel reporting entities to ensure proper registration in the LCFS and reporting of data, analyze data submitted by fuel reporting entities and prepare this data for dissemination to the public in various forms. Additionally, the individual will identify violations of LCFS requirements and recommend enforcement action if needed and monitor the LCFS credit market to deter and detect manipulation. The successful candidate will support communications with program stakeholders including fuel producers and marketers, utilities, automakers, zero-emission vehicle charging equipment and hydrogen station developers, ports and terminal operators, technology manufacturers, project proponents, consultants, and other governmental agencies. The individual in this role may be responsible for developing and administering contracts.

Working Conditions

 

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
 

  • Position located in a high-rise building
  • Telework is available 60% of the time
  • Requires being stationary, consistent with office work, for extended periods
  • Standard office environment (artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc.)
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone

May require traveling in-state and out-of- state up to 5% for workshops, training and meetings
