Animal Care Technician
In this role, you will perform animal care activities and bio-analytical methods (in vivo, microbiological, immunological, virological, or molecular biological) for various Bio QC tests on in-process, release or stability samples in compliance with internal standards, 9CFR regulatory guidelines, Outlines of Production and Special Outlines. Initiates, executes and completes assays as per validated procedures and within Quality guidelines and communicates animal welfare, testing, compliance and/or scheduling issues to supervisors.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Feeding, watering and daily observations of animals
Cleaning of animal cages, pens and/or rooms
Room, pen and cage set-up for animal studies
Equipment set-up and operation
Assist in maintaining inventory of animal supplies
Maintain accurate record keeping
Capable and willing to work in inclement conditions, including extreme heat and cold weather
Compliance with federal, state, and site regulations and guidelines (USDA, OSHA, GLP, SOP)
Support bio-analytical methods (in vivo, microbiological, immunological, virological, or molecular biological) for various Bio QC tests on in process, release or stability samples in compliance with internal standards, 9CFR regulatory guidelines, Outlines of Production and Special Outlines. Initiates, executes and completes assays as per validated procedures and within Quality guidelines and communicates animal welfare, testing, compliance and/or scheduling issues to supervisors.
Supports routine testing of the existing animal and laboratory assays
Supports R&D testing.
Maintains reagents, supplies and calibrated equipment
Prepare reagents and materials
Calculates results
Communicates scheduling, test status, concerns, and data clearly and accurately
Troubleshooting established testing methods
Write Laboratory Investigations, as needed.
Review results and test sheets
Revise pre-existing Standard Methods and SOPs
Trains others on methods & procedures
Knowledge of basic scientific principles and techniques.
Performs work with limited supervision.
Basic understanding of applicable regulatory requirements.
Makes routine decisions within the scope of responsibilities with guidance.
Ability to effectively communicate in a clear, concise and appropriate manner.
Effectively interacts with co-workers and others as needed and demonstrates teamwork within own group and other internal groups.
Education Requirements:
HS Diploma/GED
AS or BS in Animal Science or Biology OR - AA/CVT Degree from an accredited institution highly preferred.
Required Experience:
- One (1) or more years of experience in animal care, preferably within a quality / lab setting.
- Strong attention to detail / record keeping experience.
