DEVELOPMENTAL ENGINEER

Develops, specifies, integrates, and installs computer-based data collection instrumentation suites including sensors (accelerometers, gyros, thermocouples, strain gauges, load cells, pressure transducers, torque sensors, humidity probes, encoders, optical sensors, electromagnetic, magnetic, displacements, electrostatic, RADAR, RF, LASER, BUS monitors, communication networks, GPS, etc.) on dynamic and static test items. Reverse engineer designs, specifies, fabricates, develops documentation, integrates, and operates instrumentation packages for various tests. Instrumentation packages may include but not limited to triggering devices, measurement devices, electronic firing systems, and data collection systems. Measures, understands, and validates sensors outputs and electrical measurements based on digital data acquisition techniques (anti-aliasing, over sampling, Nyquist rates, A/D conversion, sensitivity, resolution, and accuracy). Validates and verifies test requirements against instrumentation performance specifications. Performs data analysis using plotting techniques and compile data recording programs through provided software. Provides direct support to feasibility, engineering design, development and product validation tests. Creates unique testing tools specific to the CASD test mission, using algorithms and artificial intelligence to process data and analyze active testing projects. Investigates, researches, and leads the development and procurement of capabilities required to support software safety testing and simulation testing vehicles and weapon systems. Supports system safety for autonomous vehicle and weapon systems testing at YTC. Assist YTC data officer on building data science infrastructure by production of Artificial Intelligence (AI) data networks. Manage and direct processes and R&D for data processing tools for vehicle and weapons system testing at YTC. Develop test cases to determine functionality of AI enabled systems while taking care to capture any edge cases. Identify potential applications of AI enabled technologies to improve data analysis efficiency. Exhibit proficiencies with JavaScript, Python and Power BI while working with multiple support groups within YTC. Expertise of in-vehicle network and cybersecurity applications. May be assigned independent responsibility for a project having the characteristics consistent with the duties of a Test Engineer or may serve as a project engineer on a major, complex system that is part of a high visibility, high-cost program for which a team leader has overall responsibility. Performs other duties as needed to ensure completion of test mission.

Education/Licenses/Certifications/Experience Requirements:

* Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electronics or Computer Science Engineering.

* Must be proficient with MS Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

Physical Requirements:

* Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed – sometimes on short notice – to support test missions.
* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.
* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
* Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
* Must be capable of frequent squatting, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and standing.
* Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs.
* Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

* Master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or other applicable technical degree, from an ABET-accredited program.
* Knowledge of government office procedures and prior work experience in government testing office environment.
* Experience leading a multi-disciplined project team.
* Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Project software.
* Experience on a university Formula SAE or Baja SAE project team.
* Six Sigma Greenbelt certification.
* Ability to identify existing and predictable hazards in developmental testing and take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.
* Experience with test planning, cost estimating, project management, data analysis, and/or technical writing.

Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements:

* Must be a U.S. Citizen.
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
* Must be a current TRAX employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.
