Legal and Data Research Intern

A non-profit organization seeking help to perform legal and data research on an ongoing lawsuit!  You will gain valuable experience working with seasoned professionals on a live lawsuit while helping to preserve wilderness in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Students in the law discipline or data science field are encouraged to apply.

Job Summary:

Apply your legal knowledge and data analysis skills to help us perform research on transportation infrastructure and funding plans that support an ongoing lawsuit. One paid position is available. Additional unpaid positions are available. It requires approximately 10-20 hours per week.

About Us:

Canyon Guard is a nonprofit organization based in Alta that advocates for cost-effective solutions that address traffic congestion without burdening taxpayers, or sacrificing the environment, safeguarding Little Cottonwood Canyon’s majestic beauty for generations to come. Our analysis reveals the Gondola project is financially unsustainable, environmentally damaging, and will not solve traffic congestion. Instead, numerous proven, lower-cost solutions exist. In December 2023, our coalition partner Friends of Alta filed a lawsuit challenging the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) decision to install a Gondola system as the final solution to traffic issues in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Learn more about us at www.canyonguard.org.

●  Stay up-to-date on legal developments relevant to the lawsuit.

●  The opportunity to gain valuable legal experience by working on a current legal case.
