The San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board (San Diego Water Board) has an opening for a Engineering Geologist in the Site Restoration Unit. The position location is 2375 Northside Drive, San Diego, CA 92108.

Under the close supervision of a Senior Engineering Geologist and consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the SWRCB Strategic Plan and the San Diego Water Board’s Practical Vision, the incumbent will perform water quality engineering geologic work related to the San Diego Water Board’s Site Cleanup Program. Specific job duties and responsibilities are described in the Duty Statement.

The incumbent is expected to apply geologic methods and principles in performing activities related to the identification, research, development, review, and interpretation of regulatory requirements and other documents. The incumbent is expected to be courteous and provide timely responses to internal/external customers, follow through on commitments, and solicit and consider internal/external customer input when completing work assignments. In addition, the incumbent will review and evaluate indoor air, soil, soil vapor, sediment, and water quality data, hydrologic data, and other project information including waste management, mitigation, and monitoring systems; investigate the sources and movement of contaminants in surface water and groundwater; ensure consistency with relevant water quality plans and policies, established hydrologic and engineering geologic standards, and applicable laws and regulations; work collaboratively with other staff and the regulated community; prepare written documents for consideration by the San Diego Water Board; represent the San Diego Water Board before other boards, agencies, and groups; and provide presentations before the San Diego Water Board and other organizations concerning Board activities

Duties:

The Engineering Geologist is responsible for managing a caseload of complex projects within the Site Restoration Unit. Consistently develop high-quality work products, and provide timely and professional customer service to management, colleagues, and the public. Participate in internal and external training to expand knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to the regulatory programs administered by the Site Restoration and Groundwater Protection Branch. Act on behalf of the Senior Engineering Geologist in their absence and represent the San Diego Water Board concerning Board activities.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
