Digital Forensic Examiner I

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking a Digital Forensic Examiner to work within the Technology Investigation Unit Lab located in Waterbury, VT.  

This position will primarily be supporting criminal investigations by performing forensic and geolocation analysis. The Examiner will analyze data from electronic devices to include cell phones, laptops, computers, and any other mobile devices. Analysis will be performed using state of the art computers, industry tools, and specialized software designed for law enforcement use.  The position will regularly confer with law enforcement officers to provide detailed analysis for their investigations. Additional duties will include performing extractions of mobile devices, performing evidence maintenance, and producing forensic reports for devices involved in extractions and analysis within the lab. This position will be required to participate in courtroom testimony and various other court proceedings as needed.

Flex scheduling may occur on occasion where the employee is permitted to work from home. However, the majority of the time, this position will work in the office. The weekly schedule consists of Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM, and occasional voluntary overtime opportunities exist after 4 PM on weekdays or on weekends. New and ongoing training is routine in this position, and some training out of state is required. All expenses are paid by the employer or host training site. Training sessions can last anywhere from one day to five weeks at a time.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, cyber security, or related field.
