SWFT Career Placement Coordinator

This position is a Grant-Funded, Full-Time, 12-Month, Professional Support Staff appointment with an annual salary of $45,088.44.

The Career Placement Coordinator for SWFT is responsible for employer outreach and providing career planning and job search services to prospective, current, and former participants of the SWFT program, which is funded by the State of Illinois’ Workforce Equity Initiative (WEI).

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide career and job search services to prospective, current and former SWFT students; identify and understand the various needs unique to individuals and diverse populations.
  • Select, administer, and interpret career assessment instruments.
  • Establish networks with regional workforce development entities to create a pipeline of opportunities for program participants.
  • Develop relationships with companies and organizations who may have employment opportunities for SWFT students and alumni; serve as a liaison between employers, students, and departments and the SWFT program.
  • Acquire and demonstrate knowledge of labor market trends, educational requirements and job search resources to provide accurate information to the SWFT program participants.
  • Provide career guidance on Parkland College’s Career Services website; coordinate with Career Services staff to connect employers with the College Central Network platform.
  • Develop and deliver career workshops and participate in job fairs hosted by SWFT sponsored credit and non-credit programs.
  • Follow established recruitment policies and suggest changes to the Director for Support for Workforce Training / WEI as needed; ensure that employers who participate in on-campus interviewing and recruitment are aware and abide by policies.
  • Assist the Director of SWFT in setting and implementing career counseling goals and objectives compatible with the SWFT program goals, identifying learning outcomes, analyzing data, and using results to guide decision making.
  • Stay current with changes in policies, degree programs and training opportunities.
  • Maintain knowledge of Parkland’s Career and Transfer programs to assist with potential student enrollment opportunities and connecting prospective and current students to relevant faculty and staff.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Public Relations to deliver messages in alignment with Parkland’s institutional brand.
  • Respond to questions and forward inquires to relevant staff; assist with walk-ins.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and related work experience; or another equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Ability to respond to and manage multiple constituencies and to work with diverse populations.
  • Desire to meet and work with students.
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperative as a member of a team.
  • Verbal and interpersonal skills enough to communicate with a diverse clientele, prepare and deliver presentations, produce and edit written materials, and perform other duties of the position.
  • Functional ability in word processing and presentation applications with the ability to learn the Parkland student information system and new programs as technology changes.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
