Transportation Engineering/Planning Intern
AECOM is actively seeking a Transportation Engineering/Planning Intern to be based in Pompano Beach, Florida.
This position provides in-house consulting services with Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is a part of the Florida Department of Transportation and consists of over 500 miles of limited access roadways across the State of Florida. The candidate will be part of a dynamic team, working on a wide variety of high-profile projects across Florida. This candidate will have the opportunity to bring original ideas and be on the forefront of planning and design that supports future transportation improvements on existing roadways and new corridors. This internship program is designed for students with a desire to pursue a career in transportation as an engineer or planner.
This position is expected to begin in June 2024.
The responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Participate in transportation planning assignments, including micro-simulation, corridor studies, safety studies, Interchange Access Request (IAR) documentation, and Transportation System Management and Operations (TSM&O) studies.
- Analyze traffic count and crash data.
- Prepare Typical Section, Equivalent Single Axle Loads (ESAL), and Lane Closure analysis memorandums for design projects.
- Collect traffic data or perform surveys in the field when needed.
- Assist with written reports and presentations of project findings that support PD&E studies, Design/Concept projects, signal warrant analysis, and corridor retiming studies.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning with the intent to continue after the internship, unless graduating.
- Candidates must have completed three years of study in their program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.
- Candidate must be highly motivated, curious, and have a team player attitude.
