Job Title: Intern - Atomic Legacy Cabin

Location(s): Grand Junction, CO

Status: Temporary – 90 days or less

Anticipated Start date: May 27, 2024

FLSA: Non-Exempt 

Hiring Range:  $16.50 – $ 17.00 per hour

RSI is recruiting for an Intern at the Atomic Legacy Cabin who will gain hands-on and working understanding of interpretive center operations. As a member of RSI's Education, Communication, History and Outreach (ECHO) team, this student will work closely with Museums Collections Specialist to complete museum object collection reports. This intern will also assist the interpretive center staff with daily operations, programming, and outreach for public visitors, official government tours, community groups and students visiting the cabin.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • General knowledge of museum collections best practices.
  • Experience working with the public and a wide variety of audiences.
  • Approximately 50% support of the regular operation and programs conducted at the Atomic Legacy Cabin.
  • Provides excellent and professional customer service for both the public and to internal team members.
  • Ensures safe working conditions at workstations and in public areas at on- and off-site locations.
  • Collaborates with Atomic Legacy Cabin staff to effectively communicate site's history to schools, youth and adult groups, stakeholders, and public visitors to the interpretive center.
  • Communicates information and works collaboratively throughout all levels of the LM/LMSP organization.
  • Attend meetings and provide reports about status of museum’s collection project.
  • Serve as a contributing member of the LMSP ECHO team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education and Years of Relevant Experience:

Completion of 60 credit hours prior to start of internship towards an undergraduate degree in History, Education, or a related field

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s license

 

Essential Physical Requirements: 

Work involves moving objects by exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an above-negligible amount and up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
