Intern - Corporate Programs

Summary

This internship is a dynamic role designed for individuals aiming to gain firsthand experience in program and project management within a structured Program Management Office (PMO) environment. The intern will support the PMO team in understanding and responding to the needs of the management team, focusing on the development and execution of projects that align with corporate goals and objectives. This role offers the unique opportunity to contribute to the success of project planning and execution, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.  Other assignments may include process and procedures development, grant application development, and various other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  1. Support Project Planning and Execution: Assist in the planning and execution of projects by participating in project meetings, documenting requirements, and supporting the development of various project plans.
  2. Support Program Management: Help monitor program and project progress against timelines and budgets, and assist in the maintenance of program tools including dashboards, program schedules, etc.
  3. Project Monitoring and Reporting: Contribute to the creation of status reports for management review.
  4. Stakeholder Communication: Support effective communication with project stakeholders through the organization and maintenance of various project tools including, for example, the strategic alignment matrix (the X matrix), project organization charts, and stakeholder registers.
  5. Resource Coordination: Assist in coordinating project resources, including scheduling meetings and managing project documentation to support the project team.
  6. Process Improvement: Contribute to the identification and implementation of process improvements within the PMO to enhance project delivery and efficiency.

Relationships

Internal

  • VP, Corporate Programs: Receives direction and guidance from
  • Program / Project Managers: Supports as directed by VP Corporate Programs

External

  • No regular contact or communication with external individuals or entities.

Competencies

  1. Must have a basic understanding of project management principles as demonstrated in various leadership roles, team organization and involvement, or directly through participation in a business environment.
  2. Must have practical working knowledge of computer software and hardware, especially in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  3. Must possess strong organizational skills, the ability to meet timelines and schedules, and write clear, concise reports. 
  4. Must possess the ability to learn communication and work collaboratively with a team or independently, as needed.
  5. Must possess a strong and demonstrated work ethic.
  6. Strong verbal communication and team skills are desirable.
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are desirable.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

Most of the work will be performed in a standard office environment but a portion of the work could be in the field in varying weather conditions. Flights in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters are also a possibility.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Education

Completion of Sophomore-level course work in an accredited undergraduate degree program related to engineering or sciences, required. Course work with project management emphasis, preferred.

Active enrollment in accredited undergraduate program, required.

Experience

Six (6) months prior work experience in any setting, required. Previous project management experience not required.
