Summer Internship, Mechanical Design

What to expect

  • Internship is a paid hourly position.  
  • Internship is full time, in the office, candidates should expect 35-40 hours per week, M-F, 8 am to 5 pm. Flexible start & stop times. 
  • Work location is on the Hughes campus at 11717 Exploration Ln., Germantown, MD 20876. 
  • Excellent support from HR for Interns with scheduled summer activities and mentorship opportunities. 
  • Interns will complete a small project as part of the internship and present their work to fellow interns & senior leadership. Great opportunity to get more experience in public speaking & presentation.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing electromechanical systems integrating PCBs, mechanical elements, thermal & power management. 
  • Design of components in PTC CREO CAD software
  • Analysis of mechanical components
    • Theoretical and finite element analysis of mechanical elements. 
    • Theoretical and CFD thermal simulation. 
  • Testing designs to ensure they meet performance specs-temperature, power draw, RF output, software, etc. 
    • Setting up & running tests
    • Processing data, drawing conclusions and making presentations. 
  • Working closely with the factory to ensure products are made as designed-sampling parts for quality, troubleshooting processes and maintaining quality. 
  • Working with cross-functional groups like electrical engineers, RF engineers, software engineers, etc. 

 

What you need

  • B.S Engineering Major; Mechanical, Bio-Mechanical or Mechatronics. 
  • Either is entering or completed the Junior year of their program. 
  • GPA > 3.0.
  • A great work attitude, curious and eager to learn. 
  • Working knowledge of C, Python, and/or Labview
  • Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, data loggers and spectrum analyzers.
