Bacterial Diagnostics Laboratory Technician

Position Title: Entry-Level Bacterial Diagnostics Laboratory Technician

Department: Bacterial Diagnostics

Position Reports To: Bacterial Diagnostics Manager

Work Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday with flexibility as needed

Position Details: The Bacterial Diagnostics Laboratory Technician role at our Omaha office is an exciting opportunity to join our Bacterial Diagnostics team. You'll play a vital role in supporting laboratory operations, including molecular epidemiology, protein analysis, and traditional microbiology techniques. Key Responsibilities:

  • Necropsy: Perform tissue necropsy and gross pathology observation to facilitate sample selection for infectious agent isolation.
  • Bacteriology Bench: Isolate and identify pathogenic bacteria from clinical specimens. Conduct serotyping, antibiotic sensitivity testing, and infectious agent characterizations.
  • Molecular Biology: Assist with PCR procedures, operate thermocyclers and sequencers, and perform gel electrophoresis and antigen characterization.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Transport media and glassware, autoclave infectious materials, analyze experimental data, maintain detailed logs, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.

Key Competencies & Requirements:

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor of Science degree with 2 or more years of laboratory experience required.
  • Reasoning Ability: Critical thinking, complex problem-solving, and systems analysis skills required.
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Ability to analyze scientific data and communicate effectively in English.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift 50 lbs occasionally, stand and bend during shifts, and demonstrate good hand/eye coordination and eyesight.
  • Work Environment: Basic lab environment requiring the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
