Intelligent Systems Intern

CMC

The Intelligent Systems group develops sensing and electronic systems which gather and analyze data related to infrastructure (roads, railways, walls, etc.) where geogrids are used.  The sensors provide data (strain, movement, moisture levels, etc.) about the condition of the infrastructure.  The sensor data is analyzed by various techniques to determine the state of the infrastructure and help owners & operators optimize maintenance activities and insure the safe operation of the infrastructure.  Intern responsibilities will include assisting with the development and testing of these systems.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Assisting with the test and development of sensors and monitoring systems
  • Writing & testing software to acquire and analyze data from the sensors
  • Assisting with the installation of the systems either in a lab environment or at a field test site
  • Analyzing operation of the systems and communicating results
  • Remote monitoring of field test sites
  • Retrieving data from test sites, analyzing the data, and creating reports 

 

Education/Qualifications:

 

  • Civil, Geotech, Electrical or Computer engineering major with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Familiarity with Python (or similar) software program language
  • Familiarity with data analysis methods including statistical analysis
  • High level of motivation, initiative, and eagerness to learn in a “hands on” fashion
  • Some familiarity with sensors and/or electronics desired but not required
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
