Nature Program Head

  • Join a team of other Activity Heads learning and working within the structure of a well-established teaching system at a traditional overnight girls' camp in Maine
  • Serve as the ‘lead’ instructor in classes and mentor and support the other staff in their teaching, through weekly meetings and conversations
  • Design and develop, with guidance, a seven-week instructional program that typically includes, but is not limited to:
    • exploration and discovery on camp’s 100 acres (including vernal pools, forest land, stream and lakeshore habitat)
    • day hikes in the local area
    • on and offsite overnight (group and solo) camping experiences
    • fire building and outdoor cooking
    • First Aid skills
    • basic compass/map skills
    • other areas of interest that staff want to include, e.g., gardening, plant and tree identification, raft building, etc.

Requirements

  • Strong skills in the above areas
  • Must be at least 19 years old
  • Experience teaching and/or working with children in the outdoors
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to listen and share ideas
  • Desire to live a close-knit, positive camp atmosphere
  • Minimum commitment dates: June 14th – August 14th, 2024
