This is a Limited Term (LT) position and may be extended up to 24 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. If becoming permanent, the selected candidate must have eligibility for a permanent appointment at the time of the LT appointment or at the time of the conversion.

The State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Water Rights has an opening for a two-year (limited-term) full-time Senior Water Resource Control Engineer (Specialist) to work in the Division of Water Rights’ (Division) Cannabis Policy Section to implement a streamflow Gaging Plan in coordination with other state and federal agencies. The position is located at 1001 I Street, 14th Floor, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Duties:

Under the general direction of the Environmental Program Manager I of the Cannabis Section, the incumbent will serve as the project lead and technical expert for the State Water Board to implement recommendations outlined in the California Stream Gaging Prioritization Plan, 2022 (Gaging Plan).

The incumbent will work with partner agencies (Department of Water Resources in consultation with California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Conservation, Central Valley Flood Protection Board), other state and federal agencies (e.g., United States Geological Survey, National Marine Fisheries Service, etc.), and interested parties (nongovernmental organizations, local agencies, researchers, general public, etc.) to help address significant gaps in information needed for water management and the conservation of freshwater species and improve water management to support multiple benefits including water supply, flood, ecosystems, and water quality.

The incumbent will work with partner agencies to identify priority locations to reactivate or install gages, evaluate existing and new tools needed to support implementation, and draft technical documentation and materials.

The incumbent will conduct and oversee public outreach and coordination with other State Water Board departments and regions and partner agencies related to the implementation of the Gaging Plan.

The incumbent is also responsible for contract management and the preparation and presentation of briefing materials and other information necessary to inform the State Water Board’s Executive management, State Water Board members, and public of Gaging Plan-related work.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
