The North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, has two openings for an Environmental Scientist the NPDES Unit on the stormwater team. The positions have the option to be located at either 5550 Skylane Blvd., Suite A, Santa Rosa, CA or 930 6th Street, Eureka, CA. We offer a flexible work schedule and telework with periodic in-person attendance at the office and field work.

The positions will act as part of an interdisciplinary team overseeing and implementing the North Coast Region’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) stormwater program, which includes the municipal stormwater, construction stormwater, and industrial programs to ensure that permittees implement pollution control practices and comply with permit requirements.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Overseeing municipalities, construction sites, and industrial facilities throughout the region that discharge stormwater to receiving water to ensure regulatory compliance, conducting inspections, writing reports, reviewing technical data, working within the SMARTS database, working with the regulated community, State Water Board and U.S. EPA, support progressive enforcement actions, working with executive management, and providing customer service to stakeholders and the public.

Candidates must possess essential personal qualifications including integrity, initiative, dependability, good judgment, the ability to work cooperatively with others, and the ability to perform the assigned duties of the class.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.

Salary: $4,145 - $7,926 / month
