Hardware Engineer

The Team:
Our Hardware team is responsible for designing, prototyping, assembling, and testing circuit boards and harnesses. With a focus on embedded, RF, and high-speed digital design, we are responsible for designing a wide variety of projects. At any given time, the hardware team is working on several projects. Additionally, members are responsible for the entire chain of hardware development. Namely, members will be responsible for transforming project requirements into PCBs, contracting prototype manufacturing and parts, assembling the boards in-house, testing the boards, making revisions, and eventually coordinating with fab houses to facilitate production runs. Candidates who enjoy seeing their work transform from concept to final product will find this position very rewarding.

The Position - Hardware Engineer, Circuit Board Design:
We are looking for a hardware engineer to lead circuit board design, manufacturing, and testing. This position will work hand in hand with the mechanical and software teams to deliver tightly integrated hardware and software systems. Ideal candidates will have a solid EE background and be comfortable with the underlying principles of circuit design. This position will require candidates to implement high speed interfaces, and in some cases, RF circuits that operate at high frequencies.

Responsibilities:
-Design printed circuit boards that meet project requirements.
Contract with board houses to manufacture PCBs. Take charge of BOM production, ordering, inventory, and sourcing of parts.
-Assemble prototype boards using SMD and reflow techniques.
-Test and refine PCB designs based on in-house prototypes.
-Contract with assemblers to facilitate production runs of PCBs.
-Collaborate closely with Software and Mechanical teams to deliver integrated systems.

Experience and Qualifications:
-Significant experience with PCB layout using a modern program (Altium or KiCad experience is preferred).
-Confident EE background in circuit design, transmission line theory, antennas and RF.
-Candidates need to be familiar with relevant lab test equipment and practices, such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, VNAs, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.
-Candidates must have a basic simulation capability and use tools such as LTSPICE or similar. Ideal candidates will have good soldering experience with small SMD parts and reflow techniques. 0603 components are commonly assembled in house by current members.
-Mixed-simulation experience and RF simulation experience is a bonus. EMI and environmental certification experience is highly valuable.
-Education: A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field is required. A master’s or higher degree is preferred.
-U.S. Citizenship required

Benefits:
This job is a full-time, hybrid position. Around half of each week is dedicated to in-person collaborative sessions at our office in Ogden, Utah. The other half of each week is remote work, where flexibility of hours is paramount. We do not support fully remote positions or paid relocation at this time.
-Salary from $85,000 and up
-401(k) and medical insurance stipend
-PTO with flexible holiday scheduling
