Summer High School Teaching Fellow

Boys Hope Girls Hope of Northeastern Ohio (BHGH) is currently seeking enthusiastic, engaging, and energetic Junior, Senior, or Graduate level students or entry-level educators to work with high school students during our Academy Summer Program This is an especially valuable development opportunity for students who are planning careers in education, youth development, psychology, nonprofit organizations, or social services. This opportunity requires a full-time commitment of six (6) weeks and includes a $2,500 stipend for the summer program.

Schedule

High school programming will take place over four (4) weeks from July 8th-August 2nd with training during the week of June 3rd. The general work day is from 8AM-4PMwith specifics outlined below:

9th Grade Programming:

  • Weekdays, July 8-19th, 2024
  • Regular program hours are from 8:30AM-3PM
  • Friday, July 12th: No programming, report for staff work day from 8:30-11:30AM
  • Friday, July 19th: Cedar Point field trip, work day 7:30AM-7:00PM

10th and 11th Grade Programming:

  • Weekdays, July 22nd-August 2nd, 2024
  • Regular program hours are from 10AM-3PM
  • Scholar transportation support from 8-10AM and 3-4PM
  • Monday, July 22nd: No programming, report for staff work day from 8:30-11:30AM
  • Monday, July 29th: No programming, report for staff work day from 8:30-11:30AM

Responsibilities

  • Transport Scholars to and from programming, as well as field trips, in BHGH vehicles
  • Aid Program Manager in classroom set-up, preparation, and clean-up
  • Support with meal service when needed
  • Assist with small group work, classroom management, and supply management during on-campus sessions
  • Build positive and supportive relationships with high school Scholars

  • Commitment to collaborate and develop appropriate relationships with youth and their families with a deep understanding of the communities we serve
  • Commitment to DEIB practices and asset-based approaches to working with youth
  • Commitment to a growth mindset and becoming a life-long learner for self and others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • If driving, must have valid driver’s license with no more than two (2) moving violations
