Job Description

In Planning & Programs work unit with training, under supervision, assists with a variety of planning activities involving traffic engineering studies. These duties include preparing and reviewing information on highway safety & speed zones; conducting traffic counts; collecting & evaluating field data; verifying sign locations & pavement marking locations; photographing the site of proposed projects; researching & analyzing accidents & traffic signal warrants; participating in field reviews & project scoping.

You will become familiar with PC based & mainframe CADD systems, MicroStation, and various software packages used by the District, in the collection of traffic engineering data & the preparation of highway plans.

Performs miscellaneous duties to facilitate operational efficiency of work unit including researching plans and records; assisting with necessary record keeping; maintaining accurate data of work performed; organizing materials & compiling information to assist in report preparation; attending training.

Upon graduation, interns are eligible to apply to be an ODOT employee through the Transportation Civil Engineering (TCE) Program. This program gives a new engineer the on the job experience, continued education through training and seminars offered at ODOT and the ability to work with Professional Engineers leading towards the requirements necessary in obtaining their P.E. certification. Must currently be enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a Civil Engineering degree and in good academic standing with a minimum of a 2.00 GPA. Must show proof of valid driver's license in order to operate state vehicle.

 Rate of Pay is based on academic school year.

  • Freshman and Sophomore = $15.46
  • Junior and Senior = $15.96
