Child Development & Education Internship

We are seeking Child developement and Education Majors to join our team this summer. We are offering paid internships for eligible applicants. If your passion is working with children, development or education this is position that affords you the opportunity to participate in a paid summer internship and gain valuable experience that will help you stand out in the development and education world.

This is a seasonal internship that will last for 8 weeks from June 13th- August 9th.

Position Description:

Camp Watitoh is a traditional co-ed sleepaway camp located in the Berkshire Mountains in Becket Massachusetts. We provide a safe and supportive environment where each of our campers can live out their summer dreams and make them come true in their summer home. Each year we strive to find dedicated, motivated individuals to work with kids and teach athletics and other camp activities. The daily program includes both land and water sports. Girls and boys participate in program activities separately and then join together as a whole camp for meals, free time and evening activities. 

Staff will receive 8 days of training regarding working with kids, teaching their respective program areas and living where you work. 

Duties & Responsibilities will include working directly with our Boys and Girls Head Counselors respectively as well as Group Leaders and Program Leads. are on the front lines with their campers . Successful applicants will 

  • oversee the emotional & physical well-being of campers (ex: check ins, problem-solving, relationship building),
  • will be team players – work well with co’s and HCs, have good communication, accept feedback, seek out information, etc.
  • have a positive/ good attitude and are role models, reliable, flexible, and approachable manage the operations of bunk life (ex: inspection, showers, timeliness, sheet changing, laundry, teeth brushing)
  • always be appropriate with kids (language, physical touch, conversation topics)
  • follow & respect the rules of camp (ex: clean area, electronics policy, socializing, sign out/in)
  • are prepared, on time, engaged, and present at all activities (day and evening)
  • understand the importance/role of ODs (Waterfront, Rest Hour, Tribe Time & Evening)
  • take care of themselves in addition to their campers (hydration, diet, sunscreen, rest)
  • understand the meaning of the Watitoh Family – volunteering to help, supporting all areas of camp, going above and beyond, acknowledging others, putting things back
  • HAVE FUN and embrace the traditions
  • use their skillset to motivate and engage campers and staff
  • communicate with program leaders, Head Counselors, Program Director and Athletics Director.

The successful candidate will need to have good communication, teamwork, flexibility, problemsolving, interpersonal skills and time management.
