The company is currently seeking a Project Manager I who will be based out of our Novi Michigan Office.

General Description:  

This is an introductory level position into Project Management at Daifuku America. Managing, planning, coordinating, organizing, and communicating the management of material handling systems. Applying knowledge of Construction Management, Engineering principles and project management skills to support management of projects which include engineering, fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of material handling systems.  The material handling systems include power & free conveyors (P&F), skid conveyors, electrified monorail systems (EMS), friction drive systems (FDS), skillet conveyors, slat chain conveyors, vertical drop lifts (VDLs), automatic storage/retrieval systems (ASRS), fork/robot transfers, automatic guided carts (AGCs).

With minimal assistance from others, you will be:

  • Using / learning project management methods and techniques to manage the projects you are assigned.
  • Managing the project in supporting role to ensure project goals are met (milestones, profit, planning requirements, reporting requirements) while learning the fundamentals of Project Management at Daifuku America. 
  • Responsible to assist / support / understand the Daifuku project structure, procedures & strategy. 
  • The company face to the customer - effective communication and relationship building skills required. 
  • Responsible for maintaining project schedules.   
  • Problem solving and working with others.
  • Traveling to project jobsite as needed 
  • Learning & understanding the Daifuku project structure, procedure & strategy 

 

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Responsible to gain Daifuku product and technical knowledge.
  • Price, track, process and manage all project changes.
  • Project Manager I is responsible for documenting and distributing meeting minutes.
  • Meet with customer and salesperson to review project.
  • Establish a detailed schedule, establish priorities, and identify long lead times.
  • Establish and maintain a cash flow schedule of values.
  • Work with accounting to create financial job forecasts and issue changes to subcontractors.
  • Monitor engineering and shops to ensure downstream activities are feasible. 
  • Review/create/understand/manage all requests for quotation from customer. 
  • Review/create/understand/manage all scope changes before work proceeds. 
  • Review/issue/understand/manage major subcontractors.
  • Create reports/presentations to keep management aware of job status. 
  • Review/understand/communicate/coordinate all punch list activities.
  • Initiate job close-out

Qualifications:

  • Construction Management - 4-year accredited degree.
  • Someone who has played a role in a material handling project in the past (engineering, project management, installation) is a plus. 
  • Must be self-managed & motivated.
  • Capable of adapting to new environments and managing emotions in stressful situations.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Has an eye for details and comfortable with creative problem solving.
  • Utilizes organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point).
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Project is a plus.
  • Some understanding of material handling methods and or principles is a plus. Examples include - (engineering, estimating, finances, manufacturing, installation, subcontract management, and negotiation). 
  • Understanding of Wiring Diagrams and or Mechanical layouts / General Arrangements drawings is a plus.
  • OSHA 30 training is a plus.

Education and Experience

  • Construction Management 4-year accredited degree required.
  • 0–3 years experience in Project Management, including previous work experience as a Jr/Project Manager.
  • Previous work experience within the automotive, construction and or warehouse industry is a plus.
