Construction Estimator Trainee

  • Prepare detailed bids to be submitted to contractors to obtain work for HSD. Requires gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and other key related documents and explore them to gain a deeper understanding of a project and its requirements to prepare a competitive bid from HSD.
  • Bids should be prepared using products and materials outlined in the construction plans and specifications.
  • Assess and prioritize all possible bid opportunities, ensuring all qualifying bids are submitted in a timely manner that meets the bidding requirement.
  • Coordinate with client and other HSC departments any changes in scope or other issues and changes that may arise.
  • Obtain bids from vendors by specifying materials and negotiating pricing and obtaining discounts.  Requires gaining HSC product knowledge.
  • Build and maintain long term relationships with key clients and vendors, architects, and engineers.
  • Maintain technical and industry knowledge through classes, workshops, and industry publications.
  • Periodically review completed bids with senior management for successful and unsuccessful bid elements.
  • Make all decisions for the project applying the principles of HSC’s code of ethics.
  • Occasional travel to clients’ offices to discuss and review jobs and bids.

 

The Construction Estimator Trainee is an on-going, evolving position.  Duties may be added, removed, or modified as seen fit by the management of HSC.

Ability to accurately bid projects within quoted price and timeframes.

Ability to develop relationships with vendors to negotiate good pricing.

  • High School diploma or equivalent: coursework in drafting, engineering technology, or accounting a plus. College degree preferred.
  • Microsoft Office and Excel experience in a work environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to work for long periods with drawings and computers without interruption.
  • Ability and desire to close sales with new and existing clients
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.

 

Monday-Friday: 8-hour workday with ½ hour unpaid lunch period

 

$45,850-$47,850 annual starting salary range based on experience.

Paid every two weeks.

Commission after training
