Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Agrigenomics Scientist for our Ecological & Biological Sciences Practice to join one of our offices located in Pasadena (CA), Bellevue (WA), Maynard (MA), Oakland (CA), or Menlo Park (CA). In this role you will work as part of a team to provide technical support on existing projects and business development efforts at Exponent. 

You will be responsible for

  • Applying knowledge of genetics and/or genetic engineering to aid in the evaluation of potential risk(s) or impacts to the environment
  • Evaluating the appropriateness, validity, and interpretation of results produced from studies involving genetic methods or genetically engineered organisms, including data produced by others
  • Analyzing a broad range of data types, including genetic data
  • Support the presentation of genomic/data analyses
  • Synthesizing technical information and applying creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations
  • Developing and maintaining professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications, and participation in technical conferences and activities of professional societies
  • Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate 

You will have the following skills and qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field (Plant Biology, Forestry, Agricultural Sciences, Applied Ecology, Entomology, etc.)
  • Proficiency in code-based analyses in at least one programing language (e.g., Python, R)
  • Experience working with genomics data OR gene editing technologies OR regulations related to genetic engineering
  • Diverse interests and willingness to work on broad range of topics, including those outside of agriculture and genomics
  • Ability to problem solve and adapt to changing project needs
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets
  • Not required but any of the following experience would be a plus:
    • Knowledge of regulations related to genetic engineering
    • Experience with developing genetically engineered organisms
    • Knowledge or experience with pesticides/biopesticides
    • Experience with bioinformatics

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is $95,000 - $120,000 dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
