Nutritionist Assistant

Camp Skylemar, a well-established (our 76th year!) residential summer camp in southern Maine is in search of a Nutritionist for the summer of 2024.

We seek an enthusiastic, responsible, health-minded student who will assist with supervising and providing meals for about 25-35 campers on special diets (celiac, diabetes, various allergies). They will develop and execute a healthy eating program for our entire population of 200 boys and 75 college athletes who serve as counselors.

This is an amazing experience for a motivated future dietician/nutritionist who enjoys working with children. You have the opportunity to creatively pass on the knowledge of healthy living, while also supporting those who specifically need extra help with how they eat.

Job Skills:

• Ability to assess allergies and identify ingredients that contain the allergens (i.e. gluten, lactose, certain food-dyes, nuts, etc.)
• Ability to create menu alternatives that reflect what the other campers are eating.
• Competency in preparing gluten/dairy free alternatives with proper food safety and cross-contamination prevention practices.
• Creativity in enhancing/promoting camp-wide healthy practices (fruit/vegetable smoothies, energy balls, etc.)
• Critical thinking skills in working with picky eaters.
• Ability to work with others (chef, cooks, head of purchasing, bunk counselors, etc.)
• Be a trusted/approachable person kids who require special nutrition considerations can go to.

Our season runs June 18-August 11. Compensation packages start at $3,200.00. We also provide free housing, meals, roundtrip travel expenses, time off, staff clothing, WIFI, and a laundry service. We are also happy to supervise an internship or independent study if your program permits. Most educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. Check with your institution to be sure this opportunity meets any requirements.
