Transit Facility Designer

Gannett Fleming is a recognized leader in the Transit sector, leading the design of major transit facilities for a broad portfolio of clients and projects to include LRT, BRT, subway, commuter, and heavy rail. We work with our clients across the project life cycle including planning, preliminary design, detail design, construction oversight and program management.

What you will do…

  • Identify, analyzing, and document maintenance processes and flows for bus and rail maintenance facilities.
  • Developing maintenance shop layouts, focusing on spatial relationships and sizes (i.e., form, fit, and function of the maintenance shop area).
  • Operations analysis and optimization.
  • Writing reports on maintenance operations and programming requirements.
  • Selecting maintenance equipment and preparing specifications for the equipment.
  • Coordinating across other technical disciplines in the development of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Occasional travel (up to 25% of time, including overnight) for field work, meetings, and presentations with transit clients

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architectural, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or a B.A. in Architecture required.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) required
  • 2-5 years of relevant professional work experience
  • Knowledge of engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and/or other BIM related software
  • Proficient with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Aptitude or professional experience in bus and/or rail transit related work or studies.
  • Understanding of maintenance facility equipment and functionality
  • Technical acumen and experience in an industrial or warehouse operation including designing and/or implementing process improvements to safety, quality, or productivity metrics
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and techniques to the solution of equipment, buildings, infrastructure, and civil site configuration
  • Understanding of architectural designs, building codes, construction/project management principles strongly preferred
  • Familiarity of rail or bus Vehicle Technology (e.g., traction power, HVAC systems, transmissions, diesel engine, propulsion systems) preferred but not required
