T32 Research Post-Doc Fellow - Dr. Robert Levy Laboratory

A Brief Overview
Dr. Robert Levy, Program Director of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Research Training Program affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine has an opportunity for a T-32 post-doc Training in Molecular Therapeutics for Pediatric Cardiology.

 

Note: US citizenship or permanent residency is required for this position.

 

The program offers training in cardiovascular research with a special emphasis on heart valve disease, serotonin receptor mechanisms, and structural degeneration of bioprosthetic valves. The program offers opportunities to train with investigators across the disciplinary spectrum of cardiovascular disease. The successful applicant will have a doctoral degree or equivalent, a record of accomplishment in research, and will be committed to a career of research related to cardiovascular disease.

Candidates should demonstrate quantitative/qualitative research skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and with collaborators.

A track record of original first-author publications from doctoral work is desirable.

Emphasis will be placed on basic and translational research, career development, and transition toward independence.

Opportunities are available for classroom-based training and professional development in grant writing, scientific communication, and leadership.

 

Applicants with a Ph.D.; MD; MD-PhD with both interest and experience in basic cardiovascular research are encouraged to apply. Specific expertise in cell and molecular biology, biomaterials, bioengineering, immunology, pharmaceutics, and pharmacology is highly desired.

Responsibilities

1. Conduct independent scholarly research and develop new methods and protocols

2. Participate in project planning, recording and evaluation of data

3. Acquire technical, lab management and grant writing skills

4. Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentation at national meetings

5. Supervise junior lab members

6. Collaborate with other research projects
