Youth Development Internship

We are seeking driven young folks who are ready to make a difference in the lives of our campers. Either as a Day Camp staff or an Overnight Camp staff, you will: teach campers life skills, teach and model healthy camper and peer relationships, manage a cabin or group schedule, teach and model the basics of self care (both physical and mental), all in a fun, fast-paced atmosphere on our beautiful 130+ acre facility. With our staff, we seek to instill our four core values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty in young professionals through on-the-job training and continual coaching in an environment that encourages personal growth and emotional intelligence.

**Some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements before they accept a position.**

Objectives:

-Ensure physical and mental health and well-being of program participants

-Assess the needs of program participants and respond appropriately

-Develop activities and experiences in relation to participant age and experience level

-Effectively implement group activities

-Develop communication skills to respond to staff and participant needs

 

Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to parents, children, and other employees of the organization. 
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money. 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to maintain constant awareness of surrounding, especially where children are concerned. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all socio-economic levels in the camp environment. 
  • Willingness to address issues as needed. 
  • Ability to act with discretion concerning sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality as needed. 
  • Greet parents and visitors in a friendly manner Exhibit a positive attitude, enthusiasm and flexibility with all programs throughout the summer.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. 
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. 
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 
  • CPR/AED, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen training required upon hire and must remain current throughout employment. Completion of ACA 6-day training required after hire.
