Care Farm Internship

Sanctuary One is a care farm - a nonclinical site where people participate in animal and horticultural therapy. All animals on the care farm are rescues from other shelters or law enforcement cases. There is mutual healing for the animals and the people. Our vision is People, Animals and the Earth: Better Together.

All interns take part in the daily operations of the care farm, performing a wide array of chores, from feeding and herding farm animals to moving irrigation pipe and bucking hay. Interns also help guide tours, learn the principles of permaculture, help rehabilitate and socialize farm animals and participate in special projects.

Internships run throughout the year, and typically last three to four months; however, some of our interns have stayed as briefly as six weeks and as long as nine months. We ask for interns who live onsite to stay for a minimum of 6 weeks. Our internship program is a full-time, unpaid position. We provide comfortable housing in a shared living space, with some food staples provided. Interns are responsible for their own food and transportation. While living on the care farm interns work 40 hours a week and are asked to, in partnership with staff, select a special project/goal for their duration to work on learning new skills, enhancing and expanding learning/understanding, and more. Intern goals have a wide range of foci - animal nutrition, curriculum building, marketing and communication, social services, etc.
