Civil Engineering Associate - Transportation

Job Summary:

 

This position performs basic engineering assignments requiring the application of standard engineering principles and concepts. This position helps perform design tasks and coordinates design and construction activities, studies, and various analyses. This position works under close supervision; problems faced are not typically difficult or complex.

 

Successful candidates will assist in the development of concept and construction plans, right of way estimates, cost estimates, bid documents, design calculations, and quantity takeoffs under the direction of licensed professional engineers. Candidates with skills and coursework in multiple disciplines of civil engineering are desired.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Performs routine assignments including compiling data and assisting with permit and report preparation, and material testing.
  • Completes elementary design calculations and prepares quantity takeoffs and estimates and engineering plans utilizing advanced software and technology.
  • Performs basic design tasks utilizing engineering software and technology. Prepares drawings and visual aids.
  • Performs as-needed field reviews and observations of ongoing construction projects to gain increased understanding of construction practices and design applications.
  • Becomes knowledgeable of all applicable federal, state, and local codes, criteria, regulations, and ordinances that are pertinent to respective discipline.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned and within scope of practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Basic knowledge of production software
  • Solid oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer Intern (EI) license
  • Previous internship experience

Coursework/experience in transportation, geometric design of highways, traffic engineering, construction cost estimating, land development, and construction management

Experience with Microstation, Geopak, Bentley Open Roads Designer, and/or AutoCAD

  • Experience working with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) or alternate DOT experience
