College Intern I/II/III/IIII (flex)

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Region (based in Anchorage) is recruiting to fill our College Intern positions located in Anchorage or Wasilla. Each selected candidate will be assigned to support one of the following sections: Highway Design, Traffic Design, Utilities, Aviation Design, Preliminary Design & Environmental, Survey or Right of Way and may be rotated into other sections as need and interest warrant. Assignments will consider the skills and interests of the employee and the workload of each section.

Current needs are in Highway Design (based in Anchorage or Wasilla), Preliminary Design & Environmental (based in Anchorage), Traffic Design (Anchorage), and Utilities (Anchorage).

Duties may include assisting in the development of construction plans, specifications, and estimates; writing technical reports; and preparing calculations. Incumbents may also review ROW or Utility permit applications and/or inspect constructed improvements. Interns can expect to have their work overseen by qualified engineers and individuals in their respective sections. We work with our interns to provide feedback on the work performed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: All applicants must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA) and be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credit hours) for the spring 2023 semester. For spring/summer internships, students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA in the prior semester for which they are applying (ex: fall semester GPA is 2.5 or better when applying for spring semester internship). Upon hiring, interns must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and full-time enrollment throughout their internship.
