Junior Civil Engineer
 
The Suffolk County Department of Public works (SCDPW) is looking for qualified individuals for entry level positions in the Division of Highways, Structures and Waterways (HS&W). The Division presently has opportunities in our Traffic Engineering, Highway Engineering, Construction Management and Structures Sections.
 
On average the Division completes approximately 20 projects totaling $50 million to $75 million in Capital Improvements annually. We offer an opportunity to be involved with exciting projects including traffic safety, pedestrian and bicycle accessibility, highway reconstructions, intersection improvements for capacity and safety; bridge rehabilitations and full bridge replacements. Such projects allow the Department and employees to have a positive impact to the community through an innovative and forward thinking outlook to best serve the public needs of today and the future. 
 
The Division is looking for self-motived individuals who have earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. New employees will enjoy a friendly and diverse workplace while being mentored by highly qualified, experienced professional engineers to support career growth and progressive responsibilities within the Department.
The Division of HS&W is responsible for approximately 1,500 lane miles of roadway, 650 traffic signals, 75 Bridges, 200+ culverts and 300 waterways. The Division is made up of approximately 70 employees and include multiple Sections:
  • Highway Engineering
  • Bridges & Structures
  • Traffic Engineering
  • Construction Management
  • Waterways
