R&D Electrical Engineer (Early/Mid-Career)

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:
$100,900 - $195,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

WHAT YOUR JOB WILL BE LIKE:

You could be the electrical engineer we are seeking to join our dynamic team to design, build, test, and deploy the next phases of our explosive destruction system (EDS) as well as multiple instrumentation and sensor efforts in response to our stakeholder needs.
We are seeking a dedicated, high performing engineer with broad electrical expertise to join and grow with this multi-disciplinary team. The work involves integration of complex systems, developing control electronics for operational needs, unique experiments and sensors, as well as modifying and hardening commercial off the shelf accessories for field deployments. You may also be involved in building data systems for communication and remote operations, designing custom electrical panels for control systems, and design and troubleshoot of analog and digital electronics and related embedded data systems.
The teams work involves all aspects of design, all phases of construction, testing, and deployment with full documentation for customer use.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Lead the development of system components using advanced engineering skills and tools to design, develop, realize, and deploy them
  • Design power distribution, sensor, and small industrial control systems
  • Conduct hands-on testing and troubleshooting of electrical systems
  • Perform electrical systems safety analysis and documenting results
  • Engage with a team of engineers, designers, scientists, and technologists to resolve complex hardware and instrumentation issues
  • Present concepts, designs, test data, results, status to management, team members, and interagency stakeholders
  • Participate in a multi-disciplinary system safety analysis
  • Engage with government sponsor stakeholders to define requirements, propose solutions, and resolve challenges
  • Developed and maintain comprehensive records for long-term support of fielded systems
  • Travel as required to oversee contract activities, conduct testing, system deployments, and recurring upgrades for new munition findings. Travel can be on short notice.

QUALIFICATIONS WE REQUIRE:
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant STEM field as well as Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant STEM field
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-Level security clearance
