Environmental Education Internship
Camp Wawenock is a traditional seven-week girls’ camp located on Sebago Lake in Raymond, Maine. Wawenock helps campers be themselves while providing opportunities for campers to challenge themselves through activity skill development and cabin living, ultimately developing confidence to be the best version of themselves.
Head of Outdoor Living Skills – Job Description
- Join a team of other Activity Heads learning and working within the structure of a well-established teaching system
- Serve as the ‘lead’ instructor in classes and mentor and support the other staff in their teaching, through weekly meetings and conversations
- Design and develop, with guidance, a seven-week instructional program that typically includes, but is not limited to: exploration and discovery on camp’s 100 acres (including vernal pools, forest land, stream and lakeshore habitat), day hikes in the local area, on-site overnight (group and solo) camping experiences, fire building and outdoor cooking, First Aid skills, basic compass/map skills, other areas of interest that staff want to include, e.g., gardening, plant and tree identification, raft building, etc.
Requirements
- Strong skills in some combination of the above areas
- Experience teaching and/or working with children
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to listen and share ideas
- Desire to live a close-knit, positive camp atmosphere
- Minimum commitment dates: June 16 – August 16, 2023
