Summer Theatre Assistant Directors Intern

Work with youth ages 5-17 each week to develop skills and perform short productions ranging from musical adaptations like Percy Jackson and Frozen. Assistant Directors will develop classroom/rehearsal management skills and gain first-hand experience in bringing a script from page to stage with young performers, including observing and collaborating with experienced teaching artists and leading games and exercises.

Assistant Directors must be available to work a minimum of four weeks, from late June through August in our outdoor summer camps. The hours are 8:30am-3:00pm on weekdays during the summer. Assistant Directors must complete each camp they are assigned to in order to fulfill the job requirements. It is helpful if Assistant Directors can drive and have access to a car, but not required.

Duties include:
  • Assisting Teaching Artists in the creation of live theatre pieces
  • Supervising, guiding, and encouraging young performers
  • Organizing materials including (but not limited to) scripts, PPE, attendance sheets, and first aid.
  • Coordinating props and costumes.

Applicants must have:
  • Enthusiasm for working with youth
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Be over the age of 16 and eligible to work in the United States
  • Theatre experience encouraged
