Microbial Therapeutics & Devices - Technical Associate I

This a two-year term position with the possibility of extension. 

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, to work on a fast-paced, interdisciplinary, collaborative project in the Traverso Lab. The lab is currently developing the next generation of drug delivery systems, including extended-release and localized delivery of therapeutic agents including microbial therapeutics. Responsibilities include designing and prototyping micro- to milli-scale devices using additive/subtractive/molding techniques; functionally characterizing therapies and devices using wet-lab techniques (bacterial culture/quantification); supporting animal experiments to evaluate therapy and/or devices (tissue sample processing/quantification); summarizing and documenting research results; presenting research findings at laboratory meetings; researching and providing content for presentations, grant progress reports, and internal requests for information; conducting literature reviews; ensuring safety standards/procedures are followed, preparing lab for inspections, and correcting problems; and performing other duties as assigned. May co-author manuscripts, assist with materials procurement, and plan lab events/meetings.  

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: B.S./B.A. in chemistry, chemical/biological/biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a field directly related to the work; two years’ specialized lab experience (may include experience gained as an undergraduate), preferably in a research laboratory or research company setting; commitment to producing accurate, high-quality protocols and data; ability to work with minimal supervision and independently manage time and prioritize own work to meet deadlines; awareness of basic lab safety and ability to maintain a safe work environment; and willingness to quickly learn new scientific tools/techniques.

PREFERRED: M.A./M.S. (as noted above); experience with device prototyping (FDM/SLA printing, molding, CNC machining, manual); proficiency with device design tools (SolidWorks/HSMWorks, Fusion360, or other CAD/CAM); and experience with molecular and cell biology (reporter assays, cell culture, pipetting) and in vivo experimental techniques (tissue sample processing/sequencing/qPCR).
