Mechanical Systems Application Engineer

IE is a leading provider of custom engineered and manufactured process and electrical systems to the mining, oil & gas, and power/utility industries in North America. IE’s turnkey products are generally mobile - mounted on skids or in portable e-houses. Our products include portable power/generators, substations, electrical control rooms (MCCs/VFDs/switchgear), water-flood/disposal buildings, compressor skids, metering equipment, mining power skids, oil and gas, mining, and other products used in the renewable energy sector. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Systems Application Engineer to join our team at our Price, Utah facility.
Key Duties:
  • Review prospective solicitations/bids and develops timely quotes and cost estimates that maximize IE competitiveness
  • Provide front end process engineering recommendations by analyzing customer design proposals, specifications, and projects to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Calculate cost and determine feasibility of customer projects based on analysis of collected data
  • Develop win approaches to position company as preferred provider/supplier
  • Develop process design work including P&ID development, PSV calculations, line sizing, pump and control valve sizing and specification
  • Be familiar with total project systems to include mechanical, structural, civil and electrical components to allow considerations of those aspects into a project or area design
  • Review and check data supplied by others to verify data fits within the customer project design intent
  • Complete piping and pressure vessel mechanical analysis in compliance with ASME and other applicable codes
  • Provide technical support to the purchaser/procurement to respond to any technical queries from suppliers
  • Work closely with manufacturing to improve quality and efficiency
  • Answers technical inquiries, makes technical recommendations, provides process troubleshooting, improves process engineering tools, and develops process procedures for various projects
  • Meets company quality assurance requirements for personal work assignments
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert (SME) and liaison between the customer and IE’s design team
 

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field with at least three plus years’ experience closely related industries or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in design and cost estimating on energy related equipment such as L.A.C.T. units, Salt Water Disposal, Instrument Air, Gas Metering skids, Pig Launcher/Receivers, energy storage, renewable energy and, various other automated process systems
  • Good understanding of process equipment design including pumps, pressure vessels, piping
  • Knowledge of chemical engineering fundamentals to conduct process design
  • Competent with personal computer applications and engineering modeling software
  • Ability to evaluate complex technical problems and provide recommendations for solutions
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of different groups throughout the organization
  • Ability to meet deadlines and provide deliverables for a multitude of simultaneous projects.
