Civil Engineering Designer Internship
ERLANDSEN, a Surveying, Planning, and Civil Engineering consulting firm, has an opportunity for an internship to join our engineering team in North Central Washington.
ERLANDSEN is seeking a two-month long internship for a student with an eagerness for a profession as a Civil Engineering Designer to work alongside our team, gain life experience with the opportunity to be an integral part of our growing company.
The Civil Engineering Designer intern will help with and learn how to produce construction plans and other technical drawings for site development projects. Job tasks consist of setting up drawings per company standards, drafting redlines in coordination with engineers, back-checking work for completeness and accuracy, and managing plan sets and associated revisions.
The Civil Engineering Designer intern position offers excellent growth potential and is not limited to drafting redlined plans. We offer in-house design training in various aspects of civil site development, including TESC, site planning, 3D grading, drainage, and utility design.
Desired Qualifications for this position include:
• Working toward an Associate or Bachelor Degree in engineering, CAD technology, or equivalent.
• Strong engineering or technical background, especially in civil design.
• A real passion for gaining experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Desire to learn how to prepare transportation, water/waste water, storm, utility and site grading plans with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Some working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D in a design capacity related to layer management and usage, road stationing, alignments, profiles with ability to import and export of various file
types, including .shp, .dwg, .dgn, .pdf.
• Willingness to learn the legal limitations and rights associated with public right-of-way, private easements, existing utilities, such as water, sewer, gas, electric, communication, and other underground and aerial utilities.
• Ability to read and interpret construction and other types of design drawings.
• Detail oriented and committed to a quality control process.
• Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
• Comfortable with Google Earth, GIS or other mapping applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to be flexible in daily duties and level of responsibility,
• Flexible to work outside of normal business hours, if required.
• Ability to prioritize projects, deadlines, etc. daily. Strong organizational and time management skills
• Must enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-growth, rapidly changing work environment.

• Have the personnel drive to read and understand County and City code to ensure work complies with permit approval standards
Intern candidate must be 100% reliable, physically able-bodied, have a valid Washington State driver's license with a clean driving record, and be able to pass a background check, including a drug test. Strong work ethic, a positive attitude and the ability to problem solve is also a requirement.
