Laboratory Supervisor (2838)

Responsibilities
  • Conducting day-to-day supervision or oversight of Accessioning Laboratory operation and personnel
  • Interacting and communicating with non-laboratory staff to ensure an efficient workflow
  • Verifying that all Accessioning Laboratory personnel are trained and competent prior to handling patient specimens independently
  • Verifying that all Accessioning Laboratory personnel are evaluated for competence in assigned tasks and that remedial action is performed when staff do not perform as expected; this evaluation will be
  • conducted semiannually during the first year of hire and annually thereafter
  • Assuring compliance with all applicable state and federal standards and regulations, including CLIA and OSHA
  • Monitoring accessioning speed and accuracy to ensure that acceptable performance is maintained
  • Assuring that all remedial actions are taken whenever procedures deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
  • Maintaining of accessioning standard operating procedures
  • Assisting with monitoring and managing the inventory of accessioning room supplies and materials
  • Assisting with managing the continuous improvement process

Qualifications
  • A BS or BA degree in medical technology or biological sciences from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Applicants should have at least one year of experience in a molecular genetics clinical laboratory.
  • Experience understanding and troubleshooting issues regarding qPCR, nucleic acid extraction and DNA extraction required
  • Management experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills, such as word processing, statistical analysis, and laboratory information systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of good laboratory practices and regulatory compliance
  • Strong analytical skills
  • A positive attitude and the ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced and evolving work environment
