Laboratory Supervisor (2838)
Responsibilities
- Conducting day-to-day supervision or oversight of Accessioning Laboratory operation and personnel
- Interacting and communicating with non-laboratory staff to ensure an efficient workflow
- Verifying that all Accessioning Laboratory personnel are trained and competent prior to handling patient specimens independently
- Verifying that all Accessioning Laboratory personnel are evaluated for competence in assigned tasks and that remedial action is performed when staff do not perform as expected; this evaluation will be
- conducted semiannually during the first year of hire and annually thereafter
- Assuring compliance with all applicable state and federal standards and regulations, including CLIA and OSHA
- Monitoring accessioning speed and accuracy to ensure that acceptable performance is maintained
- Assuring that all remedial actions are taken whenever procedures deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
- Maintaining of accessioning standard operating procedures
- Assisting with monitoring and managing the inventory of accessioning room supplies and materials
- Assisting with managing the continuous improvement process
Qualifications
- A BS or BA degree in medical technology or biological sciences from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- Applicants should have at least one year of experience in a molecular genetics clinical laboratory.
- Experience understanding and troubleshooting issues regarding qPCR, nucleic acid extraction and DNA extraction required
- Management experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills, such as word processing, statistical analysis, and laboratory information systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong understanding of good laboratory practices and regulatory compliance
- Strong analytical skills
- A positive attitude and the ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced and evolving work environment
