Geotechnical Engineering Intern
GeoStrata provides geotechnical engineering, geologic engineering, environmental engineering, and materials testing services throughout the intermountain west. We are seeking motivated individuals that are seeking a career in geotechnical engineering or related fields to work either part-time or full-time in our geotechnical laboratory located in Bluffdale, Utah.
Job Summary
Our geotechnical engineering interns work primarily in our geotechnical laboratory and we offer great flexibility for work schedules to accommodate the rigorous class schedule that and engineering degree can require. Full-time work is available for interns in the summers as well. Many of our interns are hired as staff engineers after graduation and are given opportunities to advance into geotechnical field work, engineering analysis, and report preparation.
Responsibilities
- Perform geotechnical laboratory tests including sieve analysis, Atterberg limits, 1-D consolidation, % swell/collapse, California bearing ratio, direct shear, triaxial shear, back pressure permeability, etc.
- Help as needed in our materials testing laboratory with soils, asphalt, and/or concrete testing.
- Learn the purpose behind each of the laboratory tests.
- Learn the workflow of a geotechnical project.
- Help maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Qualifications
- A student actively pursuing a 4-year or advanced degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geologic Engineering; Geotechnical coursework preferred;
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater is preferred;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and
- Possess reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
